* From the Blog…Upcoming PayPal Change
——-
PayPal will be updated to accept only TLS 1.2 connections after June 30, 2017. It is imperative that your store is prepared for this change.PayPal has been sending out notices for the past few months regarding upcoming changes to their system. Specifically, June 30, 2017 is the deadline that will impact the majority of websites that use their services. After this date, only TLS 1.2 connections will be accepted.
TLS stands for Transport Layer Security, and the 1.2 protocol is more secure than previous versions. Once PayPal removes support for previous TLS versions, your website won’t be able to communicate with their servers, unless your server and the software you are running both support TLS 1.2.
If you are using ShopSite for your ecommerce store, you will need to be running version 12 SP2 or higher by June 30th, or else your store will no longer be able to process PayPal payments. The latest version is 12 SP3. Complete information on this version, including a link to the full feature list, as well as cost and upgrade instructions, can be found on our website at:
https://www.lexiconn.com/ecommerce/shopsite/shopsite12.html
If you are running Magento 2.1.3 (or higher) as your ecommerce product, you are all set as the software supports TLS 1.2 natively. If you are using Magento 1.x, we’ve patched your store with SUPEE-8167, so your store is ready for the upcoming PayPal changes. We also applied SUPEE-8967, which prepares you for the upcoming Mastercard changes. Reference:
We always recommend keeping up with all software upgrades in order to have access to the latest features and bug fixes. The PayPal changes are a good example of the importance of such upgrades. Even if your store doesn’t accept PayPal, other changes are on the horizon for payment gateways and realtime shipping services, and those would require running modern versions as well.
